Danish data-protection company Keepit says it has passed $100 million in annual recurring revenue, giving the SaaS backup provider a nine-figure commercial base as it attempts to expand the role of backup into AI data integrity and operational resilience.

The privately held company said recurring revenue has grown more than 13-fold since growth-equity investor One Peak first invested in September 2020, equivalent to a compound annual growth rate above 55%. The figures are company-reported and have not been independently audited through public-market filings.

Keepit employs around 700 people and operates data centres across seven regions. Its service protects SaaS data from platforms including Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and Salesforce using infrastructure that it operates independently from the major SaaS and hyperscale cloud providers.

The $100 million milestone is being tied to Keepit’s AI Truth Cloud strategy, although that initiative is not new this week. The company launched AI Truth Cloud on 6 August and has since positioned it as an extension of traditional backup rather than a separate product release accompanying the revenue announcement.

The underlying argument is that enterprise AI creates a new reason to preserve trusted historical copies of business data. Conventional backup is primarily designed to recover information after deletion, corruption, ransomware, or service failure. AI systems create the possibility that data may also be altered through automated workflows and then reused by subsequent agents or applications.

That makes provenance and rollback more significant. If an autonomous process changes a record incorrectly and another system later treats that record as authoritative, an error can propagate without the clear destructive event normally associated with recovery.

Keepit’s approach is to treat immutable backups as an independent record of previous data states. The company argues that organisations can use those copies to establish what information existed at a particular time and restore known-good versions when necessary.

That proposition overlaps with established resilience practices rather than replacing them. Immutable backup has long been used to reduce ransomware risk by preventing attackers or compromised administrators from encrypting or deleting recovery copies. AI changes the potential source of unwanted modification but not the fundamental value of maintaining an isolated recovery path.

Keepit’s vendor independence also feeds into the European sovereignty discussion. The company operates its own cloud infrastructure rather than placing customer backups on the same hyperscalers hosting primary SaaS services.

Separation can reduce common-mode dependency. If access to a primary SaaS provider is lost through compromise, account suspension, provider outage, or another event, a backup held behind the same identity and infrastructure stack may be harder to reach when it is needed.

Independence is not an absolute guarantee of resilience: a backup provider introduces its own operational, security, and supplier dependencies. The value comes from avoiding identical failure domains rather than eliminating third-party risk altogether.

The commercial milestone suggests there is substantial demand for that model even before the AI-data proposition is fully tested. Enterprises have already been increasing SaaS backup adoption because responsibility for retention and recovery is often more limited than customers assume under shared-responsibility models.

AI now gives vendors another use case around data integrity, but the claims will ultimately depend on integration. A backup platform can preserve trusted copies, yet organisations still need mechanisms to determine when an AI-generated change is wrong, identify the affected records, and restore them without losing legitimate subsequent work.

Keepit’s $100 million ARR therefore provides evidence of scale for an established backup business. The more ambitious part of its strategy is whether that recovery infrastructure can become an active control in AI-driven operations rather than remaining something organisations reach for only after a failure.
